Moving Forward
You know what procedure your pet needs. What now?
- You may have questions. Make sure that they are all answered before surgery. You should understand the surgical procedure, the recovery period, and the postoperative care that will be required. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions at all.
- Contact your veterinarian to schedule the procedure. We will work with you to schedule it at your convenience.
What will happen on the day of my pet’s surgery?
- Preparation. Most pet’s should not be fed after midnight on the evening before surgery and access to water should be restricted on the morning of surgery. Check with your veterinarian to make sure that your pet does not have any specific food or water needs prior to surgery. Also inquire about any medications your pet may be on.
- Be sure to bring your pet to the veterinary hospital at the designated time. Following surgery, some pets require an overnight stay and others can be discharged on the same day. Ask your veterinarian about the expectations for your pet when you schedule the procedure.
- I will call you with an update shortly after the procedure is finished. But please do not hesitate to check in at any time if you would like an update earlier.
What about after my pet is discharged from the hospital?
- I will provide you with complete discharge instructions. This will include activity restrictions, medications, and recommended recheck examinations.
- Please do not hesitate to contact your veterinarian or myself if you have any questions or concerns at any time.
